摘要：A liquid crystal (LC) phase is a mesophase that exists between crystalline solid and isotropic liquid phases, thus having the orientation/positional order of a crystalline solid and the fluidity of a liquid. A number of physical properties have been found in LCs, including large physical anisotropies and high sensitivity to external stimuli, and LCs are therefore one of the best materials for applications ranging from displays to sensors and photonic circuits. In this talk, I will introduce some LC devices based on rod-like nematic LCs and helical cholesteric LCs, including tunable lasers, multistable optical switches, and diffractive optical elements. In addition, LCs have been introduced into passive silicon photonics devices to realize active silicon photonics devices.
